4. At the same time the British authorities

finally of all three ships and to reimburse

themselves for expenses/incurred in respect of the "Svirstroi" [and

from the 1st September 1945 to the 31st

ay 1946. The sums involved amount to $5,002.80 (until the

31st March, 1948) and $1,362 respectively. Charges in respect of the "Sviretroi"!

" and "Simferopol" since the 1st April 1948 are not

yet known in this Department.

5. The Colonial Office has, therefore,

proposed that the Soviet Government be asked to

agree to the sale of the two wrecks "ävirstroi"

and "Simferopol" by the Hong Kong Government

and to the deduction from the proceed: of that

a decision on the Soviet claim to compensation

6. If you see no objection, I should be

grateful if Your Excellency would address a note

to the Soviet Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

outlining the present position, and seeking
